BIG Shipping update - PLEASE read!

We wanted to give you a quick heads-up about a VERY unexpected USPS shipping restriction surrounding the Labor Day holiday.

Normally, USPS publishes its holiday live-animal shipping restrictions publicly so that businesses like ours can plan ahead. This time, however, USPS did NOT publish this notice on its website as they normally do. Our Post Office contact showed us an internal notice they received regarding the Labor Day live-animal shipping restrictions.

So unfortunately, we're finding out about this with very little advance notice too.

USPS has instructed its locations to follow special acceptance guidelines for live animals ahead of Labor Day. Because our discoid roaches are shipped under USPS live-animal regulations, these restrictions affect our shipments.

Here is what that means for Luna Roaches orders:

  • Wednesday, September 2: The Post Office will NOT accept live-animal shipments. The only two places that do are Jacksonville and Lake Mary Distribution Centers are both are too far away from us.

  • Thursday, September 3: USPS retail locations will NOT accept live-animal shipments.

  • Friday, September 4: USPS retail locations will NOT accept live-animal shipments.

  • Monday, September 7: USPS locations are closed for Labor Day, and no live animals may be dropped off.

  • Tuesday, September 8: Regular live-animal shipping resumes.

Unfortunately, this means that if we cannot get your order shipped tomorrow, Wednesday, September 2, our next available shipping day will be Tuesday, September 8.

We know that's a much longer gap than normal, particularly when many of you plan your feeder orders around your animals' feeding schedules. We also apologize for the last-minute notice. Had USPS published this information ahead of time as they normally do, we would have been able to give everyone much more notice.

We are temporarily pausing discoid sales

Because of this unexpected shipping interruption, we are also going to temporarily close down new discoid sales until Monday.

We have a very large number of subscription orders scheduled to come in over the next several days, and because none of those orders can ship until Tuesday, they are essentially all going to pile up at once.

Tuesday is going to be an all-hands-on-deck shipping day for us.

Our subscribers have standing orders that we need to make sure are filled and shipped as quickly as possible once USPS begins accepting live animals again. With the number of subscription orders coming in, we simply won't have the capacity to continue accepting additional one-time discoid orders on top of them and still get everyone's roaches out in a timely manner.

Rather than continue taking orders knowing that we may not be able to ship them promptly, we feel the responsible thing to do is temporarily pause new discoid sales and reopen them on Monday.

This does not affect existing orders or subscriptions. If you've already placed an order, you are in our queue.

This is not a change to Luna Roaches' regular shipping schedule or policies. It is a temporary USPS restriction surrounding the Labor Day holiday.

If your order has to wait until Tuesday, please don't worry about your roaches. They will remain here with us, fed, hydrated, and cared for until they can safely enter the mail stream. We'd much rather keep them comfortable here for a few extra days than risk having them sitting somewhere in the postal network over a long holiday weekend per USPS concern.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding while we work around this unexpected USPS restriction.

Thank you for supporting our little family business, and we hope everyone has a safe Labor Day weekend!

Mel & Chris Luna Roaches
